Short Story: "A Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury

I thought this was a pretty good story, and it wasn't even half as confusing as "All You Zombies". Although this story didn't have as complicated of a plot, and wasn't quite as interesting to figure out, I think it had some really good ideas about Time Travel. The story was about a 'Time Safari' company that would take people back in time to hunt different animals. The first thing that I found pretty cool and I have never thought about before is the fact that when they were traveling back in time, they went past their 'future' selves, who were going back to the present. Another thing I think is interesting was that when they went back in time they had to walk on a special anti-gravity metal path, and they could not touch anything because it could disrupt the entire future of the Earth. Then they go on to explain how if you accidentally kill one mouse in the past, you are killing all its offspring, and all its offspring's offspring, and all that offspring's offspring and so on. Which could cause other animals, such as foxes, to starve because there is not enough mice for them to eat. Which would then lead to some other animals starving and the whole food chain just completely breaking down. So, they can only kill animals that have been observed, and are about to die anyway of some natural cause. When they kill the T-Rex in the story, just a few minutes later a huge tree falls on top of it which would have killed it anyway if it had not been shot. And then of course, everything goes wrong. Eckels, who is the main character, accidentally steps off the path. He thinks nothing of it, because all he did was get some dirt on his shoe, right? Wrong. He managed to kill a butterfly. When they get back to the present time it seems the same, except a few little details such as the spelling on the sign. And a different president has just been elected, rather than the one they had been talking about before they left.............and who knows what else.

  1. Way to go! I love the way you are exploring the ideas and possibilities of time travel. I can feel a great presentation beginning to take shape.
